A day at Air Atlantique

On September 16, 2003 I had the opportunity to visit Air Atlantique Classic Flight at Coventry in the UK together with a group of propliner enthusiasts. Air Atlantique operates a fleet of classic aircraft like DC-3, DC-6, Convair 440 and some even more exotic examples like a Twin Pioneer or Percival Pembroke which are used for air shows and fly-ins. We got a very extensive ramp and hangar tour at the airline's base, and our guide Ben really took the time to show us everything in detail. Thanks again for that great day from all of us!

The main reason for our visit to Coventry though (as if we needed one except for being able to photograph the Air Atlantique fleet...) was that the "new" DC-4 ZS-AUA of Springbok Flying Safaris had been there for an overhaul and was to be ferried to Basel that day before it flew down to South Africa. It was possible to book seats on that ferry flight, and some propliner enthusiasts from Switzerland decided that this opportunity was just too good to let it pass. So after our tour at Air Atlantique we were treated to a wonderful three-hour cruise to Basel over England and France, pictures of which can be found on page 2 of the album.
