Visiting the Buffalos

No, we're not talking about real buffalos here (although I like those too...). We're talking about Buffalo Airways, an airline based at Yellowknife Airport in Canada's Northwest Territories which has a large number of beautiful old propliners still in regular use. I paid them a three-day visit in early September 2001 to witness their daily operations and capture them on Kodachrome, and I was very impressed by the professionalism of the employees and the friendliness and helpfulness they showed towards a propliner-crazy photographer from Switzerland. They even made a rare exception and invited me for two rides on the jumpseat, which is normally not possible for obvious security reasons. My special thanks go to Juanita Green who helped me set up this visit, Chief Pilot Jim Smith (who sadly passed away much too early in December 2003) and of course the president of the airline, Joe McBryan.
