Swissair
Short history of the airline:
Swissair was created in 1931 by the merger of Balair from Basel and Ad Astra from Zurich. For a long time it was a very successful and respected airline and can probably even be called an aviation pioneer in some respects. However, due to severe mismanagement starting in the 1990's and some strategic decisions which proved to be completely wrong (some call it megalomania...) it ended up going bankrupt at the end of 2001 after 70 years of service (see also the special "Swissair Grounding" album). Its successful regional subsidiary Crossair then took over part of its operations and, by taking over 52 former short- and long-haul Swissair aircraft, formed the new Swiss airline called "Swiss".
